Flat Stanley Arrives...and has Adventures in Grand Prairie, Texas

Last Tuesday, a sweet friend of mine, Conner, sent his Flat Stanley from Rodgers, Arkansas, to our office for a visit.Flat Stanley immediately made friends with the office bobblehead who sits on my desk (they are about the same size, so he felt pretty comfortable with Dwight).

Flat Stanley enjoyed the time he spent in our office because on Tuesday we were feeling pretty festive. We began putting up our Christmas Decorations. The tree was very tricky, so I was glad that Flat Stanley could help. He liked to help with the lights.

Later, it was time to string the popcorn to make garland for the tree, but Flat Stanley really wished he could eat the popcorn. Conner's Grandpa Bill popped the corn for the office and it was a tasty treat on Friday. We certainly ate more than we strung for garland!

On Saturday, Flat Stanley was one bored flat kid! He did not get to go anywhere fun. It was rainy outside, but the main reason he had to stay inside was that Kelly had to write a paper for her English course. But, Flat Stanley did get to catch up with the Guthrie clan when he checked Facebook with Kelly. He was so excited to see his best bud Conner in this picture of the Christmas program. How wonderful Conner looked! We thank God everyday for the miracle of Conner's life! What a great and awesome God we serve - One who loves, cares and heals us. Praise God for Conner!

Flat Stanley was especially glad later on Saturday afternoon, when one of Kelly's family members brought her a brewed coffee treat from Starbucks. The warm concoction was quite tasty and nice to have on a dreary day. It made Flat Stanley feel a bit jumpy so he literally started jumping on Kelly's computer. She was not too happy, so Flat Stanley had to find a nice quiet place to rest for the rest of the afternoon.

One of the best things about Saturday, is that it is right next to Sunday and Sunday is church day! Kelly works in the church library and gets to read billions of books! Well, not billions, but a bunch - that is for sure! Flat Stanley got to pick out a book to read quietly while Kelly helped some people find books to take home. He also thought it would be fun to play hide and seek with the books - he fit right in!

 Kelly found Flat Stanley!

The children's Sunday school classes were learning about a great missionary named Lottie Moon. They were collecting money to send to other missionaries and they sold "Lottie Moon-Pies" for 50 cents each. They had banana and chocolate. Flat Stanley picked chocolate.

On Monday, it was back to DBU, but still no outside! Flat Stanley was sad until Kelly said he could help with some more decorating. One of her friends brought peacock feathers for them to use with the Christmas wreaths. Can you see all the pretty colors in the feathers? God is so amazing to think of the beautiful design of the peacock and his feathers!

On Tuesday, it was still rainy and cold outside, but Flat Stanley got to go to a new place with Kelly and her daughter Kendall. A new restaurant opened near their home and they were so excited about it. They could not stop talking about Chipotle! Almost everyone in the office was so glad that they could finally go there to eat, just so Kelly would stop talking about it.Flat Stanley was amazed that the burrito from Chipotle was the same size as he was (only a lot rounder!)

Kelly says that Wednesday the weather is supposed to be nice outside and Flat Stanley is going to get to see some things outside of her office at DBU.
